5G gets mentioned a lot in media coverage of Huawei’s battles with the United States and other Five Eyes countries, including New Zealand.

Huawei, the world leader in 5G technology has become the lightning rod in a trade war between the US and China.

It’s banned from building 5G networks in the US over fears Chinese spies could get access through a “back door” and disrupt vital infrastructure.

But what is 5G and why are telcos keen to roll out the new technology?

In part two of a three part interview with Newsroom’s Bernard Hickey, Vodafone NZ CEO Jason Paris discusses the advantages of 5G.

He also outlines his company’s plans to be a “one stop shop” for video in Kiwi homes with a new version of Vodafone TV.
