Changing South: Christchurch pool’s dog-only swim

As part of a series about life in the South Island, watch dogs enjoy a one-off dogs-only swim in Christchurch's Waltham Pool

It's a four-legged frenzy which unleashes sheer doggy delight.

As Christchurch's Waltham Pool prepares to empty for the winter, it invites its canine community in for a one-off event - a pooch-only plunge.

(No dogs were harmed in the making of this video, only soccer balls.)

This summer, Newsroom is featuring the work of renowned Christchurch documentary-maker Gerard Smyth.

In this series, called ‘Changing South’, Smyth looks at life in the South Island – the people, the places and how events like the Christchurch earthquake have had a lasting impact.
