University of Otago joins Newsroom
Newsroom is delighted to welcome the University of Otago as our third university partner for the IdeasRoom section exploring issues of importance to society and the country’s future.
Otago experts will feature on Newsroom from October 1, joining our inaugural partners the University of Auckland and Victoria University of Wellington.
IdeasRoom is a forum for leading academics and researchers to contribute on issues in the public eye and to provide expert explainer articles and opinion pieces.
Dunedin-based Otago, with around 20,000 students, offers a broad range of studies and is home to one of the country’s two medical schools, alongside Auckland. It is the only university offering degrees in dentistry and surveying.
Over the past two years Auckland and Victoria have contributed hundreds of substantive articles to Newsroom, working with editors within the universities and from our editorial team. They have covered everything from geopolitics to abortion, politics to artificial intelligence, milkshakes and hate speech to urban design.
With the expansion to include Otago, IdeasRoom will become a bigger and livelier forum for some of the country’s best and most provocative thinkers.
An Otago spokesperson said: “Newsroom’s ability to engage a large and discerning audience is because it consistently delivers relevant, evidence-based and important news.
“Newsroom has rapidly gained a reputation for setting the national media agenda and providing intelligent and diverse perspectives on important issues. Consequently, we are delighted to be on board with a news organisation that is making a vital contribution to the news scene in New Zealand.”
