Jungle School: Meryl and the macaque

Orangutan Jungle School is a documentary series about a unique forest school in Borneo that prepares hundreds of young orphaned orangutans for a life in the wild.

The producers have provided Newsroom with some short videos that give a fascinating insight into the world of these endangered orangutans.

In this episode we meet Meryl, she is three years old and is in Group Two. She’s like that beautiful girl we all envied at school who is genuinely sweet to everyone and loves making new friends.

Her charisma is magnetic and attracts everyone to her, including a young long-tailed macaque monkey who she affectionately befriends on the lawn playground after class. Just watch this clip and see how she wins the little macaque over.

The series has been made by Dunedin’s NHNZ and will screen on Choice TV from January 10 at 7.30pm.
