Dot’s castle pt 2: From a hole in the ground

"I took her by the hand one day and said, 'can you imagine, if I dug you a hole in the ground there, could you just imagine a wee castle'?"

Ever since Dot Smith was a little girl, she had dreamed of owning her own castle. She held that dream throughout a life of hard work and, with her family backing her all the way, Riverstone Castle now stands at Oamaru.

In this second episode Dot Smith, her family, and her architect tell the story of Riverstone's design and construction to Melanie Reid.
