Rain washes away farmers’ incomes

The heavy rain over much of New Zealand in recent weeks is putting stress on crop farmers, vegetable growers and grain producers.

South Canterbury cropping farmers have been particularly hard hit as harvesting of wheat and barley has not yet finished.

Prices for the rain-affected crops will be lower and the delays in replanting the sodden ground will hurt next year's returns as well.
