Rescuing a starving penguin chick

Choice TV is running a series about the Dunedin wildlife hospital that caters for native NZ animals. Each week Newsroom will show an exclusive extra scene from last night’s episode.

Episode 1 followed the rescue of a yellow-eyed penguin.

On the Otago coast, hoiho / yellow-eyed penguins are struggling to find enough fish to feed their babies. Yellow-eyed Penguin Trust rangers Ben and Dave are on patrol in the nesting colony, keeping an eye out for underweight chicks that may need to be taken into care.

Wildlife Rescue New Zealand follows the trials of injured animals as they’re rescued, rehabilitated and released back into the wild, whilst exploring the human journeys of those who dedicate their lives to safeguarding vulnerable wildlife.

Watch Wildlife Rescue NZ - Sundays, 7.30pm on Choice TV.
