Football Fern perfects hole-in-one skills

Even at Level 3, our top Kiwi sportswomen are coming up with novel ways to keep fit - and stay sane. LockerRoom shares posts from athletes who've caught our eye this week.

Football

Football Ferns forward Hannah Wilkinson is attacking boredom head on. The talented striker - who left Portugal for Whangarei when Covid-19 took hold in Europe - is putting her own spin on kicking drills, devising a ‘football golf’ course in her iso-backyard.

Sailing

New Zealand sailor Erica Dawson is hanging in there with her exercise routines. She’s proving you don’t have to be on the water to keep active – all you need to know is how to tie a knot... and climb.

Rugby

Ruby Tui is really missing rugby in lockdown. So to help with her withdrawals, the Black Ferns sevens speedster has set up a makeshift rugby field in her backyard – mini goal posts, sidelines and all.

Netball

The Northern Stars are shining once again - the South Auckland netball franchise is leading the way in entertainment off the court. Check out the different ‘type of netballers’ who make up their ANZ Premiership team.

Hockey

Black Sticks veteran Gemma McCaw commemorated ANZAC Day with her own personal bagpipe performance on her deck. The Olympian watched as her husband, former All Black captain Richie McCaw, displayed his skills as a piper, remembering the fallen with his rendition of Amazing Grace.

Cycling

Elite cyclist Holly Edmondston is staying ahead of the bunch with her stretching regime – and a little help from her pets. The 2019 World Cup team pursuit gold medallist knows keeping limber will give her an advantage when racing starts again.

Swimming

High performance coach Nicolai Morris leapt at the water restrictions being relaxed in Level 3. While others were lining up for takeaways, the strength and conditioning specialist couldn’t dive off the jetty any faster.

BMX

Who knew shovelling cow dung could be so much fun? Watch as 2019 BMX junior women’s world champion Jessie Smith, who’s been working on a farm in lockdown, moo-ves through a full body workout scooping up manure.
