Pure As: Casey Kopua
Silver Ferns centurion Casey Kopua stars in the second episode of Pure As, a mini documentary series on the Silver Ferns' personal journeys to World Cup glory.
The moment Casey Kopua returned to the Silver Ferns after two years in retirement, she had to seriously ask herself if she'd done the right thing.
It was January 2019 when she slipped on the black dress again, and played four quarters against the English Roses. "My face was red, and I'm pretty sure my feet were dragging all over the ground," she says in the Pure As mini documentary made by Netball New Zealand.
It was at that moment the former Silver Ferns captain realised international netball had moved on in her absence, but it would be the starting point to recapturing her strength, stamina and tenacity to be ready for the 2019 World Cup.
Kopua, who's about to have her second child, reveals why she came back, her special relationship with Dame Noeline Taurua, what she did when she helped to silence the English crowd in the World Cup semifinal and what winning gold in Liverpool meant to her and her family.
Six of the world champion Silver Ferns share their personal stories in the ‘Pure As’ series, giving insights into the Ferns’ individual journeys towards uplifting the World Cup in Liverpool. The first in the series featured Ameliaranne Ekenasio.
Episodes will be released weekly through www.silverfans.co.nz, and shown on LockerRoom every Saturday.
